The practice has been appointed to carry out a feasibility study for the replacement of a key building in the towns main shopping street to act as a catalyst to drive further urban regeneration projects in a more concentrated retail area, and to form a better visual and physical link between the iconic Torch Theatre and The Docks and Marina that is currently out for consultation on a new masterplan that relies heavily on retail and leisure concepts. Key to the projects success is a mixture of town centre over 55’s apartments and a central courtyard being combined with community uses on the lower floor for pop up and give and take shops, an art gallery, e-goods drop off and pick up facilities, meeting rooms and a dance rehearsal/keep-fit studio. Several County and Town Councillors are promoting the setting up of a Development Trust (a not for profit company) to attract grants for the community elements of the project, which dovetails perfectly with the Welsh Governments latest new regeneration framework document ‘Vibrant and Viable Places’
