EXTENSION TO DWELLING, BURTON FERRY, PEMBROKESHIRE.

The client, a retired Pilot on the busy Milford Haven waterway, bought the site because of its south-facing orientation, it’s sloping garden that reaches down to the Haven, and its proximity to the Cleddau Bridge and the abundance of small craft navigating its upper reaches at this point on the waterway. The existing dwelling was a single storey, featureless bungalow, and the brief was to provide an ‘interesting, functional and sustainable’ multi-purpose extension for a mix of daytime leisure uses in all weathers. In addition to the extension, a raised south-facing timber terrace has been provided, incorporated in the building is a continuous level/glazed skylight, former telegraph poles as columns, and to connect to the semi-nautical theme it has chains running down to stones, acting as rainwater disposal, with the client considering adding a rainwater harvesting system for ‘grey’ water in the future.
