Multi-Purpose Building/Hydrotherapy Pool, Red Roses, Nn Carmarthen

Gareth Scourfield is heading a team, comprising PDL’s in-house Quantity Surveyor, and consulting structural/mechanical/electrical engineers to carry out a feasibility study for the provision of the building on this respite/holiday facility for a wide variety of disabilities, on a farm diversification scheme that is regularly patronised by repeat clientele from all over the UK and currently has a number of specialist adapted holiday cottages.

The centrepiece of the building will be a hydrotherapy pool with a temperature of 40º in the water to assist physiotherapists and carers to manipulate joints/limbs etc.  As well as the pool and changing facilities, an on-site café with covered dining, a sensory room, a gym, some multi-purpose treatment rooms (e.g. hair drying, massage etc.,) a Jacuzzi/sauna/steam room and various games/meeting/therapy rooms are also to be included on the design.

Whilst the first phase will not comprise all of the above, the scheme needs to be designed so that the core facility can be easily extended, with the minimum of disruption in phases in the future.  Subject to the study proving its viability, it is hoped to make a detailed planning application to Carmarthenshire County Council later this year.
